I love quotes. Though many are so often filled with clichés, I love how you can fall upon one sentence and it will inspire you to look at an aspect of your life in a different way. Quotes can be simple reminders that everything will be alright and that if you keep pushing you can succeed.

The wisdom of quotes can be powerful. They can be poetic and beautiful with so little saying so much. Frequently these concentrated number of words leave a profound impact. One of my favourite aspects of reading quotes is how relatable you can feel to…

Early last year my sister’s partner of nearly ten years left their home in the middle of the day and never came back. She thought he had been murdered. After repeatedly calling his phone and getting no answer she started to contact family and friends for information on his whereabouts. She soon discovered that he was staying at a friend’s house — his friend completely clueless about what was going on. My sister waited for one week unable to eat or sleep before truly registering that he was gone. …

When I began fostering dogs I naively took on a German Shepherd as my first breed. My grandparents had Shepherds when I was growing up but I quickly realised that there is a big difference between visiting these beautiful dogs on occasion and taking care of one permanently. Luckily, I had the time and patience to get to know the breed and its requirements and quickly they became one of my favourite dogs.

According to the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 2020 German Shepherds were the third most popular dog breed in the United State of America, beaten only by…

What is it really like living in Ireland? Many people have stereotypes of leprechauns, pots of gold, and excessive drinking but there is a lot more to the country than outdated generalisations. I have lived in Ireland for most of my life so know a thing or two about what life is really like here.

There is a lot of interest in Ireland — the country, the people, and the culture. We have a small population of just under 5 million but it is estimated that 50 to 80 million people around the world have Irish forebears, making the Irish…

Travel. Travel Tips.

For the adventurer consumed by wanderlust, the pandemic has been exhausting not only for being unable to travel but also being unable to know when you can start the exciting process of planning again. Over a year later and the idea of international travel is finally on the horizon. It may not be the time to book flights just yet but it is certainly time to start researching.

Here are four dream trip ideas for the outdoor adventurer:

1. See Beluga Whales in Churchill, Manitoba

You may not have ever heard of Churchill, Manitoba, a town on Hudson Bay in Canada just shy of the Arctic Circle…

A few years ago a work colleague told me how before visiting a new country she likes to read literature written by native authors. It started when she had been on a train journey that brought her through Russia, Mongolia, and China and she decided to read books from each country on route to learn more about their history and culture. I was so inspired by the idea and immediately thought that it was a wonderful way to learn more about the country you are going to visit.

Her idea made me think about the books I would recommend to…

In 2020 I finally started to invest in stocks. It had always been something that I wanted to do but felt I needed to hit other targets such a purchasing my first house before doing so. Knowing what I do now, I wish I had started earlier however I am excited to see my progress over the coming years.

Before investing my first euro I did some research to find out what online stockbroker was most suitable for me. Many people have started getting into investing through Revolut however I personally found that they did not offer enough variety of…

With salons closing for months a time lockdown has taught or perhaps forced many of us to adjust to life without our usual pleasures. Some may not care for manicured nails or a curly blowdry but for others, they are a staple suddenly removed from our regular schedule.

Personally, I fall somewhere in the middle. I have no interest in shellac nails but I do like to get my hair done and have my eyebrows kept tidy — they do shape your face after all.

Here are 5 at-home beauty treatments that I have picked up over lockdown and will…

I believe in soulmates, someone you connect with easily and who was meant to be in your life, however, I do not believe in “the one”. Life can lead us in different directions and even the most loving relationships can end. If your soulmate has been taken away from you prematurely, you have every chance of finding a new one. There is more than one person on this planet that you can love and live a fulfilled life with.

Some may consider a soulmate to be someone you have an instant connection with that requires no work. I disagree, I…

Photo from HBO Succession website

I recently had a conversation with a friend about the HBO series Succession. I love the show — it has some of the best writing on television, the acting is incredible and it has near-flawless direction. I do have one major problem with it however which makes me feel guilty for admiring it so much; the vast majority of the cast is white. “Yes, but given the subject matter that’s realistic of society,” my friend replied.

He isn’t completely wrong. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, the series follows Logan Roy, owner of media conglomerate Waystar Royco, and his family…
